The Government has reappointed Guyana’s Public Accountability and Oversight Committee (PAOC) of the Natural Resource Fund (NRF) for another two-year term, with the new appointments taking effect from September 15, 2026.
Abu Zaman has been appointed Chairman, with Pastor Wendell Jeffrey, Savitri Balbahadur, Clement Sealey, Desmond Sears, Ryan Alexander, Gordon Thomas, Dawn Gardener and Teni Housty appointed as members.
The new appointments come as the NRF continues to accumulate billions of US dollars in petroleum revenues from Guyana’s expanding oil industry.
Under the 2021 NRF Act, the PAOC provides non-governmental oversight of the Fund and is required to receive quarterly reports from the NRF Board and meet with the Board at least quarterly.
The 2021 legislation was subsequently amended, including through fiscal legislation.
Notably, the 2024 PAOC annual report stated that Section 6 of the NRF Act provides for a nine-member committee that includes a nominee of the National Assembly, alongside representatives of the religious community, private sector, organised labour and professions.
The latest Gazette notice does not identify any of the newly appointed members as the National Assembly nominee.
