The Ministry of Natural Resources has identified areas for improvement at Zijin Mining’s Aurora Gold Mine as part of efforts to strengthen operational performance, advance underground mining development and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
Minister of Natural Resources Vickram Bharrat, accompanied by senior officials from the Ministry and the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission (GGMC), visited the Region Seven operation earlioer this week to review the company’s performance, exploration priorities and regulatory commitments.
The visit provided an opportunity for the officials to engage with the company on its operations and discuss measures to improve performance at the large-scale mining operation.

Such visits are important for monitoring how major mining operations are progressing, assessing development plans and ensuring companies meet their regulatory obligations. They also provide an opportunity for government officials to identify operational concerns, engage directly with mine management and follow up on areas requiring improvement.
Bharrat was accompanied by Advisor Robeson Benn and GGMC Commissioner Newell Dennison.
The Ministry did not specify the areas identified for improvement or outline any corrective measures agreed upon during the visit.
