Mining lottery for blocks in Mazaruni, Cuyuni districts next month

The Ministry of Natural Resources and the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission (GGMC) have announced a lottery for medium-scale blocks in the Cuyuni and Mazaruni mining districts.

The lottery will be held from 10:00 hrs on Wednesday, August 20, 2026, at the GGMC's headquarters on High and Princes Streets, Georgetown.

Interested individuals can apply between July 31 and August 17, 2026, at GGMC stations, or from July 31 to August 19, 2026, at the GGMC Headquarters. Maps are available for viewing and purchase at the GGMC headquarters, GGMC stations, or online at www.ggmc.gov.gy.

Eligibility requirements:

  • Any Guyanese adult (that is, a citizen 18 years and older)
  • Must have valid Guyanese identification (National ID or passport)
  • Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) certificate
  • Proof of address (valid within the last six months)
  • Must not be the holder of more than two medium-scale properties

There is a $20,000 non-refundable participation fee per lottery entry. Winners will also be required to pay a permit fee of approximately $165,000, covering rental and environmental bond costs.

The Ministry of Natural Resources said winners must complete their application by October 9, 2026. Any failure to complete the application will result in the award being forfeited.

Earlier this year, the government organised a series of lotteries for mining lands in Regions One, Seven and Eight. Through those lotteries, more than 200 mining blocks were to be allocated to small miners.
