Exxon seeks two more offshore support vessels for upcoming subsea operations

ExxonMobil Guyana is preparing to procure up to two multipurpose support vessels and remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) for upcoming offshore subsea operations, creating another potential contracting opportunity for companies in Guyana's marine services industry.

The company issued a request for information (RFI) seeking suppliers capable of providing the specialised vessels and equipment for operations in and around the Georgetown area.

The notice, published through the Local Content Secretariat, indicates that ExxonMobil intends to establish an agreement covering the provision of up to two multipurpose support vessels and ROV services.

Industry publication Upstream reported on November 4 that the procurement relates to upcoming subsea campaigns and that the anticipated contracts could run for periods ranging from one to three years.

The RFI closed on November 3 and is intended to inform the procurement process ahead of a formal tender.

The vessels and remotely operated equipment are used in offshore subsea activities, including supporting specialised operations and work on infrastructure located on the seabed.

Such services are important to maintaining and developing the offshore infrastructure required for petroleum production.

For Guyana, the procurement represents another potential opportunity within the expanding offshore services sector.

The provision of specialised marine vessels, equipment and technical personnel requires significant investment and expertise. Guyanese companies with the necessary capabilities could potentially participate directly or through partnerships with established international service providers.

The opportunity also raises questions about the extent to which local businesses can capture a greater share of specialised offshore contracts as petroleum operations expand.

Guyana's Local Content Act establishes requirements for Guyanese participation in specified goods and services within the petroleum sector. However, participation in specialised marine operations depends on companies meeting the relevant technical, operational and safety requirements.

The RFI itself does not represent a contract award, nor does it establish which companies will ultimately provide the vessels or equipment.

The next stage will be the formal procurement process, through which the technical specifications, commercial requirements and eligibility conditions should become clearer.

For local suppliers, the development provides an opportunity to assess the equipment, expertise and partnerships needed to compete for contracts supporting Guyana's offshore operations.
