Cause of Liza Unity fire to be investigated

Regulatory authorities are expected to follow up to determine the circumstances and cause of a small fire reported aboard ExxonMobil Guyana Limited’s Liza Unity Floating Production, Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessel on Sunday.

The Ministry of Natural Resources said in a statement on Monday that it was informed by ExxonMobil that heat detectors were activated in the laundry room of the vessel’s living quarters, indicating a small fire that was quickly extinguished. The appropriate emergency response procedures were immediately activated.

All personnel aboard the FPSO are safe and accounted for.

The ministry said the relevant regulatory authorities will conduct the necessary follow-up to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.

It said it remains committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of offshore workers and maintaining high safety standards across Guyana’s offshore operations, while continuing to engage ExxonMobil and the relevant regulatory agencies on the matter.
