Adamantium Holdings, Lenox John lead Guyana’s top mining performers for 2025

Adamantium Holdings and Lenox John have emerged among the standout performers in Guyana’s mining sector, taking the Top Gold Producer and Top Sand Producer awards respectively for 2025, as the industry continues to expand alongside the country’s construction and infrastructure boom.

The awards, being presented as part of Mining Week, place the two operators at the top of two important segments of Guyana’s mineral economy: gold, the country’s major traditional mineral export, and sand, a critical input into the construction surge being fuelled by rapid development across the country.

Adamantium Holdings was recognised as Guyana’s Top Gold Producer for 2025, while John received the Top Producer Award for Sand, recognising the highest production levels in their respective categories during the year.

The recognition comes against a strong year for Guyana’s mining industry.

National gold declarations rose by 11.6 per cent in 2025 to 484,321 ounces, an increase of more than 50,000 ounces over 2024. Small and medium-scale miners remain a major part of that output, with Region Seven alone accounting for 41 per cent of national gold production, according to government figures.

Adamantium’s recognition is also consistent with its established position among Guyana’s leading gold producers. The company was previously recognised as Top Gold Producer excluding traders and dealers, demonstrating that its latest award is not an isolated appearance among the sector’s leading operators.

Sand production follows construction boom

John’s award comes as demand for sand and other construction materials has surged.

Government figures show Guyana’s sand production increased from 8 million tonnes in 2023 to 11.7 million tonnes in 2024, while aggregate-stone production rose from about 1.85 million tonnes to 3.34 million tonnes over the same period.

The expansion has continued into the wider quarrying sector. By the end of 2025, Guyana had 18 operational quarries, while national quarry production had climbed from roughly 650,000 tonnes in 2020 to nearly 5.5 million tonnes in 2025, according to figures cited by Finance Minister Dr Ashni Singh and Natural Resources Minister Vickram Bharrat.

That growth reflects the increasing pressure on the mining and quarrying industry to supply materials for roads, housing, commercial buildings and other infrastructure projects.

New Thriving takes quarry crown

Within the quarrying industry, New Thriving Quarry was named the Top Producer Award winner for Quarry for 2025.

The company has emerged as a significant new participant in the sector. New Thriving entered the quarrying business as construction demand increased, with its Region Two operation developed specifically to respond to demand for stone and aggregates. The company was previously recognised as a new entrant to the quarrying sector in the Mining Week awards.

Its recognition comes at a time when Guyana is actively expanding domestic aggregate production to keep pace with construction.

BOSAI anchors the bauxite rebound

In bauxite, BOSAI took the Top Producer Award as the sector continues its recovery following years of declining production.

The Chinese-owned operator has been central to the resurgence. Bauxite production reached 1.7 million tonnes in 2024, a 225 per cent increase over 2023, with the government attributing much of the recovery to investment by BOSAI, including additional barges to increase its export capacity.

The recovery accelerated in the first half of 2025, when bauxite production reached approximately 1.7 million tonnes, with BOSAI accounting for about 1.61 million tonnes of that output.

Gold trade remains concentrated among established players

The awards also highlight the different roles played by miners, traders and dealers within Guyana’s gold industry.

Innovative Mining was recognised as the Top Gold Trader, while El Dorado Trading received the Top Gold Dealer Award.

El Dorado has a particularly long-established position in the gold trade. The company has been a licensed gold dealer since 1999 and has repeatedly ranked among Guyana’s largest gold dealers and exporters. In 2024, it was again recognised as the country’s top gold dealer and said it had been the leading gold declarant for the preceding five years.

The company remains a licensed dealer in 2026, with approved buying locations extending beyond Georgetown into several mining regions, including Regions One, Two, Seven, Eight and Nine.

Its role illustrates the distinction between production and trading: companies such as Adamantium are recognised for producing gold, while dealers such as El Dorado aggregate and purchase gold from miners before facilitating its movement into the formal market.

Diamonds and compliance also recognised

The awards extend beyond gold and construction materials.

Luiz S. Lagoin was named Top Diamond Producer, while M.S. Mining received the Top Diamond Trader Award.

The industry is also recognising operators for regulatory performance, with a Notable Performer Award for Hard Rock Mining going to an operation distinguished for its performance and compliance, including the timely declaration and sale of gold to the Guyana Gold Board.

Twenty-five goldsmiths were also recognised for maintaining high levels of compliance, while Gopaul Jewellery and LSM Jewellers received special recognition for supporting the Guyana Mining School and Training Centre.

Taken together, the awards provide a snapshot of an industry that is increasingly broader than traditional gold mining.

Gold remains central to the sector, but the growth in sand, stone, quarrying and bauxite shows how mining is becoming increasingly intertwined with Guyana’s wider economic expansion.

And with construction activity pushing demand for aggregates higher while gold production remains a major source of non-oil export earnings, the companies being recognised for 2025 are operating at the intersection of two of the country's most important economic forces: resource extraction and rapid development.
