President Irfaan Ali has held talks with Qatar’s Minister of State for Energy Affairs, Saad Sherida Al Kaabi, as Guyana and Qatar explore potential areas of cooperation in the energy sector.
Ali said the meeting forms part of ongoing bilateral discussions between the two governments and focused on the potential for collaboration in energy.
The President disclosed the engagement in a social media post on Monday but did not provide details on the specific projects or areas of the energy sector being considered.
The discussions come as Guyana seeks to expand its energy sector beyond offshore crude production and strengthen its position as a regional energy supplier.
Qatar, one of the world’s major energy producers, has significant experience in oil and natural gas, particularly liquefied natural gas (LNG).
Further details on any agreements or proposed investments arising from the discussions have not yet been announced.
