A team from Google is engaging local authorities in Guyana and could offer some support in driving the country's ongoing digital transformation.
According to a release from the Ministry of Housing, the visiting delegation includes Mauro Miyake, Territory Sales Manager for the Public Sector, and Alejandro Almazan Zimerman, Head of Google for Education for Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean. They engaged Guyana's Minister of Housing, Collin Croal; Minister within the Ministry of Housing, Vanessa Benn; and other housing officials on Monday.
"The meeting was initiated by Google as part of its visit to Guyana to familiarise itself with the work of the Ministry of Housing and explore potential areas for collaboration. During its visit, the Google delegation is also engaging several other Government ministries and agencies on digital transformation, digital infrastructure, and the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI).
"The meeting focused on the potential application of Google's advanced AI capabilities to support workflow optimisation, improve document management processes, and enhance the Ministry's digital transformation efforts. Discussions also explored how Google's AI-powered solutions could support the housing sector by modernising Government operations while maintaining a secure cyber environment," the Housing Ministry said in a release.
The Government of Guyana is pushing for a rapid digitisation of services.
At the Housing Ministry, efforts are being made to digitise records. A single window permit platform was also launched for planning and development approvals by the Central Housing and Planning Authority (CH&PA). The centralised online system allows applications to be submitted, reviewed, and tracked from a single access point, replacing a process that previously required applicants to approach multiple agencies separately.
